The Different Types of Bodybuilding

There are actually four different types of body building and most people just assume there is actually only one. Also in these four different catergories there are also four different types of competitions. The four different types of body building are the follwoing, professional bodybuilding, natural bodybuilding, female bodybuilding, and teenage bodybuilding.

A professional body builder is called so because they are someone who has won qualifying competitions, and has therefore because of this, earned what is known as a professional body builder card from the IFBB, which is the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness. A professional body builder can actually compete in official competitions, and then if they rank high enough in the competitions, they can go on to compete in the main event in nody building and is what most bosy builders aspire to, the Mr. Olympia competition.

A natural body builder is a person who competes in competitions where the contestants have to have become a body builder under natural circumstances. The body builders are tested for illegal substances. If the body builder used steroids to grow their muscles quicker, you are not classed as a natural bodybuilder, and therefore would not be able to compete as one. If you took steroids years ago, then you will never be able to compete in these natural competitions. It is not justs teroids and other illegal drugs that are banned from natural bodybuilding. The following are also banned from being used if you want to compete in these types of competitions, anabolic steroids, diuretics, and prohormone drugs also are banned. Natural bodybuilding has its own organizations, including the North American Natural Bodybuilding Foundation (NANBF) and the Natural Physique Association (NPA).

What is known as female body building is as the name implies. It is body building sport and catergories for females. Women started appearing in the sport around the 1970s, and then because their bodies are so much more physically different from male bodies, it would be obviously unfair to be judged against each other in competition. So because of this, there are now female only competitions. Women also have fitness and figure competitions, as opposed to just bodybuilding competitions. The Ms. Olympia competition has been around since 1980.

Since there is no way a teenage body can be compared to an adult body fairly, just as women and men's bodies cannot be compared fairly, there is a division for teenage bodybuilding as well.

As you can see, the divisions are clearly defined, and it will not be hard to figure out where you belong in the grand scheme of things. Of course, the ultimate goal for almost all competitive bodybuilders is to become Mr. or Ms. Olympia!
